Nearly Wordless Wednesday - Vintage Handkerchiefs

We found many treasures while cleaning out my father-in-law's house, including these two lovely handkerchiefs.

It is likely that my late mother-in-law crocheted the edges of both handkerchiefs; she was very gifted and craftsy. The square one above is made of a very fine lawn, and has an interesting, asymmetric embroidery motif.  The one below is of patterned, tone on tone silk.

I have never seen silk with such a subtle pattern before.

Both handkerchiefs are in really excellent condition; I am very fortunate to have them in my collection.
